Penalties for Arson in California
Burning of property not a structure: 16 months
Burning an uninhabited building: 3 to 8 years
Burning forest land: 2 to 6 years
Burning causing great bodily harm: 5 to 9 years
Penalties for Aggravated Arson
Where a person has been convicted of arson within the previous ten years,
the new charge is elevated to aggravated arson. Likewise, damage over
6.5 million dollars or destruction of five or more inhabited structures
is also considered aggravated arson. The penalty is ten years to life.
